As Susie lives her life in “her heaven” she realizes that some things were just meant to be and that her family can get along fine without her. She also learns that things and people are not perfect, and that there is always a reason behind their actions. It is also about how she and her family learn to cope with what happened, and get along with each other without each other. Throughout my journey of reading this book, I have realized there is nothing you can do about the bad things in life; you just have to make them the best situation that you can. I would recommend this book to someone who likes mystery and or suspense. There were some points in it where it was boring and I didn’t want to read, but there were so many moments where I couldn’t put it down, that they overpowered the times when I didn’t want to read. I chose to pick this book as my Most Challenging Book of the Year because I don’t normally mystery/suspense. After reading it I have figured out that it was challenging because although it was easy to read it was hard to think on the level of a criminal and also it was also hard to relate to the characters or ‘feel’ for them because I have not gone through something like having your sister getting murdered and never figuring out who did it. I would definitely recommend this book because it kept me turning the pages and on the edge of my seat.
Well, here I am, blogging, when I never thought I’d have a blog in my life… but I guess something as interesting as a McBoy (most Challenging Book of the Year) is worth the time, and I’m sure you, my readers, will enjoy reading about this book and maybe even the actual thing.

The Bonesetter’s Daughter seemed a bit morbid when I first picked it up – a dark, blurry cover picture, while the title itself spoke of something dark and possibly strange. It was written by Amy Tan, who is a Chinese-American writer, and has written many other books with different ethnic backgrounds. I also feel that since we had to write about the books and explain all the important details, this helped me understand the book a little better. Something’s that were within the book allowed me to recommend this book to other fellow readers easily. I had learned by reading further in the book that to read this book you have to be able to understand other people’s difficulties and understand that this book may not just be a realistic fiction story. You must also be prepared for this certain book to sometimes push you out of your comfort zone. So to sustain this you have to be a little more mature about serious situations. So I would recommend this book to readers, at least 14 years and older, and also must be prepared that this isn’t the average fairy tale with a happy ending. Not only is this book challenging but it also sends out good messages through hidden meanings. It had showed me that you should never give up and just keep going and soon enough you will accomplish all your dreams, and if you can’t, just try to make the best out of situations and live every moment of your life as if it were your last, because every second contributes to your life.
haha you told me about this book and i read one part of it!! it sounds soo creepy but I really wanna read it, aha :)
McBoy

My McBoy, “March” by Geraldine Brooks, was the most challenging I’ve ever read. But when you read more complicated text the description is more in detail and you learn more about the characters than you would if the author just told you about them. It’s also new to read a whole book in old English-like language. You get used to it to a point where it almost makes more sense than what you been speaking like for the past 14 years. Although challenging can be good for a change I do not recommend this specific book. I thought it was repetitive and boring. It’s a sequel to an old book by a different author, I can see where the first one can be considered a classic and the second be terrible. I didn’t like the book at all but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give it a shot. I had never seen a blog before so here is my first blogging entry about The Lovely Bones. Overall, I think The Lovely Bones went well and I liked that it pushed me out of my comfort zone with the topic of death and heaven. The only regret I have about reading the book is that I should’ve read more consecutively that way the book would have been more understandable; I probably would’ve liked it even more. The book also got confusing because the point of view changed frequently, in each chapter there would be several different characters talking about their own lives. I was surprised because Mr. Harvey was hardly mentioned in the last few chapters, which put the point across that it was never really about catching Susie’s killer it was about finding strength within their family. The book made me feel like I was in Susie’s shoes, living her life in heaven watching down on her family. What I got from the book is that death doesn’t have to be scary and in many ways it can help a person learn and grow. Through reading this book I found that it is not a mystery at all, it is more a family love story about growing from something tragic. I would recommend the book for anyone (boys, girls, adults) over the age of 13. For me, and I am 14, I still don’t entirely grasp the subject of death so older people would probably understand and connect to the book more. I will probably always remember how wrong I was in my prediction that I thought the book would be a mystery and it absolutely wasn’t. I will also always remember that the family wasn’t looking for attention or a fight; they were just looking to make peace with the town, each other, and themselves.
haha you have nooo idea how much I wanna read this book!!!!!!!! I decided to read this book when my mom told me that she loved it and it was one of the most challenging books she’s ever read. So I went to the library, checked it out, and started to read. I knew it was the right choice the moment is started reading and I haven’t changed my mind since. I cannot recommend this book enough (although we will read it in High School so you might want to wait a little longer. I think…no I know, that the lessons that I learned from this song will chase me until the day I die and will influence my decisions every day.

I am not going to give everything away but I want to give a brief summary. Lord of the Flies is about a group of English boys, ages 6-12 that are on a plane that crashes on a deserted island. The book is about what happens on the island. All I am going to say is that you are so lucky you are not one of those boys.

When I think of the ending of this book (I am not going to tell you what happens, if there is one thing I hate, it is someone spoiling the end to a book) I still get queasy even though I finished it almost three weeks ago. I think there is something about what happens on the island that makes me want to hide under a table, as stupid as that sounds. I think that the most important lesson I learned (I don’t think there is any harm in telling you what I got out of the book) was that there is something more than what we see at first. When you first meet Ralph, the main character, he seems like a normal boy of 12 but as his story progresses, you see more of him and you see more of the person that can really lead. As he makes decisions that many adults can’t you see that maybe children are closer to power than adults. I saw that they maybe children could lead better. Then at the end of the book, when things fall apart you realize that some jobs may be too heavy for anyone especially a child. Still, there was more to the little 12 year old Ralph than you first saw and this was what allowed him to lead the boys for so long.
Haha because you couldnt spoil the book, i am now really excited to go read it!
The Secret Life of Bees as a McBoY

I really enjoyed reading my McBoY book, The Secret Life of Bees. I know I could have picked a more challenging book but when I get a really tough book, I never get through the whole thing in the amount of time we are given. Even though it wasn’t a very hard book, I still had a little of a challenge. I had trouble with staying with all of the events that were going on in the book. I would find myself drifted off thinking about something other then what is happening in the book. Other than that downfall the book was okay for me. I was expecting the book to be a little harder for me to read. I thought that I would have a lot of trouble with the vocabulary and finding what the message was but I think I did okay with that. I would recommend The Secret Life of Bees because I was very interested with the book and it was a very good story. Though I drifted while reading my book, I am sure many girls my age would have a great time reading this book for its interesting characters and events. I think this was a pretty good McBoY book for me to read this year.
i loved this book and I helped you pick it out! i hope you liked it!!!

I re-read sections that I didn’t understand, and I looked up all of the Indian words. Doing this allowed me to understand more of what was going on, and it helped me get a sense of the setting in the book. What I got from Keeping Corner was that perseverance and determination get you the farthest in life. If you have these two things, then it doesn’t matter how old you are, what your gender is, or what your race is. Just try as hard as you can, and never take no for an answer, and you can always make a difference. This is what makes me able to recommend this book to other readers, because it will inspire them to do great things. I think girls will especially benefit from reading this book, because it will teach them that just because you’re a girl doesn’t mean that you can’t make a difference in the world or your life. In the future, I will remember this book as something that changed my way of thinking.
