Working with Data Using Microsoft Excel

What you need to KNOW: Data is everywhere and comes in all forms! From the stock market to sports statistics, we are bombarded by data everyday, so it is important for you to KNOW how to interpret what the data means and how it applies to your life. Ask yourself always: What do these numbers mean? Do I understand this graph or chart? What is this graphical display of information telling me??? Do I get it???
What you need to UNDERSTAND: How Microsoft Excel can help you take data and manipulate it using formulas to create a visual display of information. Visual displays of information can be very powerful ways of communicating a message...in a way that print cannot.
What you need to DO: Complete the worksheet "Data in Our Daily Lives." The worksheet has graphics taken from Newsweek. Interpret, in writing, what is being communicated. Think - if you were going to create a data table and then a graph from the information, how would you do it??? What kind of graph would you choose and why?
